Leatherneck earns award for support of blinded veterans

The Twenty-Fifth Annual Blinded American Veterans Foundation Congressional Awards Reception honored Leatherneck--Magazine of the Marines with the 2010 Carlton Sherwood Media Award for the magazine's support of blinded veterans. The Honorable Bob Filner, D-Calif., Chairman, House Committee on Veterans Affairs, The Honorable Gus Bilirakis, R-Fla., and the Blinded American Veterans Foundation hosted the awards reception at the Cannon House Office Building, Washington, D.C.
John Fales, a Vietnam War, combat-wounded Marine and president of the Blinded American Veterans Foundation, and Carlton Sherwood, a Marine Vietnam War veteran, noted for his often biting and controversial writing, presented the award to the Leatherneck editor, retired Marine Colonel Walt Ford.
