Progress for Rosenthal Chapter on naming ship
Progress continues on our effort to honor Joe Rosenthal with a Navy ship. While Joe earned the Pulitzer Prize and many other awards during his long career, newer generations of San Franciscans and Americans deserve to know the name of the creator of the most significant photograph ever taken. While some of us may have faded over the decades, Joe’s photo shines just a brightly as it did 72 years ago! Our current efforts fall into three categories: 1. Outreach and signature col

The San Francisco Joe Rosenthal Chapter of the United States Combat Correspondents Association (USMCCCA) is collecting signatures to try and honor Joe Rosenthal — a San Francisco and national hero — by supporting an effort to name a US Navy warship in his honor. They currently have about 1700 signatures but need at least 10,000. Please pass this around if you can help. Go to www.ussjoe.org and sign the petition.

10th Annual Fla Chapter Golf Tournament a Success
The 10th Annual Foundation's Florida Chapter golf tournament went off without a hitch Friday, May 9 leaving Tournament Chair "Red" Carpenter and his small staff of volunteers breathing a sigh of relief. The 2014 field of golfers was reduced to 66 this year, possibly due to "snow birds" heading north a bit early thanks to prolonged winter storms. Whatever the reason, the tournament was deemed a success and the Foundation's coffers will be again enriched, this time by $4,000

What do you think? Tom Kerr asks for your input on fundraising cruises
Shipmates: I need your feedback about future group cruises with other Marines. A few of you have told me you are ready to go again, almost anytime, anywhere. But others have expressed reservations unless we can come up with new itineraries. With most cruise ships leaving from Florida, it is hard to find a trip that visits ports of call other than the same Caribbean Islands most of us have seen before. Another question is the best time of year to cruise. I will do my best to

Maryland CCs dodge raindrops in chapter tourney success
As Pfc. Daniel Kujanpaa's photo attests, Arnold, Md.'s Bay Hills Country Club was an idyllic setting for the Maryland CC Chapter's first annual golf tournament - but only for part of the day. Driving rain caused officials to shut down the course within three holes of the finish, giving the win to CC John Hoellwarth's foursome. Wet or not, the 26 golfers, included two "Wounded Warriors," enjoyed a tasty barbeque lunch and rowdy awards ceremony in the clubhouse. "And we
