Marine Cyril J. O'Brien cheered when he watched the American flag being raised over Japanese soil in 1945. He wasn't atop Mt. Suribachi but he was close, watching from the invasion beach and coming ashore on Iwo Jima as a combat correspondent with the 3rd Marine Division.

Cy O'Brien Turns 92 - Oldest CC
Venerable Cy O'Brien , thought to be our oldest living CC, turns 92 on Sunday, January 30. We have been informed by his daughters as well as his friend, Ellie Bertrand, that he had recurring surgery January 24 to remove the lining from a lung due to fluid accumulation. Combat cameraman wounded in action
