Marine, journalist Jim Lehrer dies at age 85
Jim Lehrer , famed journalist and former 2007 BrigGen. Robert L. Denig Sr. Memorial Distinguished Service Award recipient died at his home Jan. 23, 2020. He was nominated by former USMCCCA Executive Director Jack Paxton who served with Lehrer at Parris Island. He was an infantry officer on Okinawa, edited a camp newspaper at the Parris Island Marine training center in South Carolina and was discharged as a captain in 1959. For more please go here.

Quantico Sentry stops publication
The Quantico Sentry , the first, and oldest, newspaper in the Marine Corps, published its last issue March 22, 2018. The newspaper was published for almost 83 years, with the first issue printed on May 31, 1935. #RIP

Executive Director recovers from stroke
For those of you not on Facebook, on Sept. 4, Kate Stark, executive director of the USMCCCA, was admitted into the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Fla., with symptoms of a stroke. She subsequently ended up going to an inpatient Community Living Center at the VA Hospital in Lake City, Fla., for rehabilitation therapy.
