Two Florida based Marine Corps associations have joined forces to organize a group cruise for Marines, friends and family members. Florida Marine Mustangs and USMC Combat Correspondents are jointly sponsoring the seven day Eastern Caribbean cruise aboard the Carnival Liberty sailing Feb. 8, 2015 from Port Canaveral visiting San Juan, St. Maarten and Grand Turk. The 10th Annual Foundation's Florida Chapter golf tournament went off without a hitch Friday, May 9 leaving Tournament Chair "Red" Carpenter and his small staff of volunteers breathing a sigh of relief. The 2014 field of golfers was reduced to 66 this year, possibly due to "snow birds" heading north a bit early thanks to prolonged winter storms. Whatever the reason, the tournament was deemed a success and the Foundation's coffers will be again enriched, this time by $4,000

Each year, the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation presents a series of awards to both Marines and civilian community members, recognizing their exemplary work in advancing and preserving Marine Corps history. Members are reminded that the deadline for nominations for officers and directors of the Association must be made to CCHQ by May 15 . We will elect all officers and three directors at the Oceanside Business Meeting in September. The officers will serve for a one year period; directors, two year terms. While not an absolute requirement, interested applicants should be willing to attend the annual conference, board and business meetings each year of their term of office. P

General Carl E. Mundy, Jr., U.S. Marine Corps, Retired, 30th Commandant of the Marine Corps, passed away on April 3, 2014. He was honored in a Military Tribute at The Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, Va., April 12th.
