President’s Notes Perennial CC award winner, Staff Sgt . Reece Lodder , nabbed another Leatherneck cover this month. Editor Mary Reinwald chose Lodder’s strong vertical from 2012 operations in Afghanistan to highlight Aaron Fenwick’s tale of three lance corporals whose infantry squad leader work. in the Helmand Province earned them meritorious promotions to corporal. Rosenthal Chapter needs signatures
The San Francisco Joe Rosenthal Chapter of the United States Combat Correspondents Association (USMCCCA) is collecting signatures to try and honor Joe Rosenthal — a San Francisco and national hero — by supporting an effort to name a US Navy warship in his honor. McEwen: CC President, mayor and officer passes
Bob was a very proud United States Marine. He enlisted in 1946 at age 17 and retired as a 2ndLt in 1967. Following retirement, Bob was a Sales Manager for United Media for another 20 years, retiring as a VP of Sales in 1978. Bob served as President of the U.S. Marine Corps Correspondents Association in 1971, 1997 and 1998, served as Mayor of Indian Shores, FL, from 1990-2000 and was Commissioner of the Pinellas Suncoast Fire District from 2000-2008.

2017 Dedicated Member Program Kicks-off
The USMCCCA 2017 Dedicated Member program is off and running this week. This program was begun in the early 2000s as a backup to our annual Booster Club drive for contributions from those members who wanted to participate in our various programs but could not fit their gift into a Booster Club category. McEwen In Hospice Care
The family of Bob McEwen has asked me to reach out on their behalf and is asking for all of our prayers. Bob is going into hospice care today (May 10). He has suffered greatly the past few months. Following his return from Bangkok in March, he continued to have issues and dementia became more and more prominent. He broke three vertebrae on April 17. Last Wednesday, in an effort to save him from circulatory problems that were increasing, he had a below-the-knee leg amput

13th USMCCCA Foundation (Florida Chapter) Golf Tournament a Success
With 64 players braving an early start to a very hot summer afternoon, the 13th annual USMCCCA (Florida Chapter) Golf Tournament held April 28 at Sherman Hills Golf Club in Brooksville, FL, now goes into the books as a resounding success! Tournament chair “Red” Carpenter reports that even though it was a smaller field than usual, the USMCCCA Foundation will be a winner. The tournament itself saw a profit of $5,237. Hatch: Oscar winning cameraman Norman Hatch passes
Norman Hatch of Alexandria, VA, died April 22, 2017. Maj. Hatch was born March 2, 1921 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the son of Irving Norman Hatch and Ruth Frances Colby. He grew up in Gloucester, Mass. and graduated from Gloucester High School. After graduation he joined the Marine Corps in 1939, becoming a combat cinematographer and photographic officer for the 2nd and 5th Marine divisions on Tarawa and Iwo Jima respectively.
