Torres: Bob passes after long illness

Robert Daniel “Bob” Torres, the long-time Public Affairs Officer for NAS Corpus Christi, passed away Wednesday evening after a long illness. Bob had gone out on extended medical leave in February and, as his condition worsened, left Federal civilian service in June. Bob served in the US Marine Corps from 1972 to 1993, spending most of his career in public affairs and retiring with the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. He was editor of the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi “Wingspan” in 2002-2003 and became the Air Station’s Public Affairs Officer in 2004. There will be a Rosary at 7 pm Monday, Sept. 15, at Maxwell P. Dunn Funeral Home, 1222 Morgan Ave., Corpus Christi. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am Tuesday, Sept. 16, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 2233 Waldron Road, followed by a reception. Burial will be at 1 pm at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 IH 37 Access Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78410. The family has requested that flowers or donations in lieu of flowers be sent to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 2233 Waldron Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78418.
