Scaran: Longtime supporter Passes

Life Member A. J. "Tony" Scaran, 82,  died April 8 at his home in Orange, CA of complications attributed to Agent Orange.  A long-time supporter of this Association, his A. J.'s Publishing Company ad was a mainstay in our annual Conference Journal. He enlisted in 1951 and through the next 11 years served on recruiting duty; graduated from the old JO course at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, from the Still Photo Course at Ft. Monmouth and the Marine Corps Basic Officers Extension Course. Attaining the rank of Gunnery Sergeant he was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1962.  His first tour of duty in 1965 was with the 1st Marine Aircraft  Wing in Vietnam.  In 1969 he returned to Vietnam as a member of the Military Assistance Command in Saigon.  He retired from the Marine Corps as a Major in August of 1973.  He is survived by his wife, Mary, sons Carey, Anthony Jr. and Mary Theresa.
