Mescall: Life Member passed away

Life Member Richard F. Mescall, Jr., 67,  passed away suddenly at his home in Fallbrook, Calif., July 11, 2010. He was born in Long Beach, but was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dick joined the Marine Corps one month after high school graduation in 1960. He served for 21 years, retiring as a Master Gunnery Sgt. (E-9). After retirement, he attended Mira Costa College, earning an Associate Degree in the Arts and Sciences. He was employed by the Oceanside Water Department before working at Naval Weapons Station, Fallbrook, 1985 - 1998. He attained the level of WG-09. Dick purchased Ed's Cocktails in Fallbrook in September 1998 and was the owner until 2009.

Dick was recently elected Post Commander of VFW Post 1924, Fallbrook, California. He also served as Commander in 1996 and 1998. He was a life member of the VFW and also the Marine Corps Combat Correspondents Association (#59L). Dick is survived by his wife, Connie; daughter, Tracey; son and wife, Rick and Janet; sister, Virginia Rice; and grandchildren, Timothy, Gunnar, Faith and Soyer. A memorial service, with honors, was held at Riverside National Cemetery.
