McMeen appointed DMA liaison

Chad McMeen availed himself of OJT opportunities in Quantico and elsewhere when he executed a lateral move from admin to public affairs in the mid-1990s.

Master Gunnery Sgt. Chad McMeen was appointed Defense Media Activity (DMA) Liaison last week by National President Keith Oliver.

“The Master Guns is in a perfect spot to help us track and recognize the magnificent day to day work done by our storytelling warriors,” said Oliver.

“Not only does DMA execute the newest version of the DoD-level media awards,” he said, “the organization is where Stars and Stripes, the Defense Information School and the American Forces Network are nested. And some of the Corps’ top young talent regularly pulls duty at DMA proper.”

McMeen has always been “a hard charger with a youthful Marine’s energy and creative mindset,” Keith said. “And he keeps it that way. We’re mighty glad to have him working with us in this new capacity.”

Currently serving as the Director of Marines Production, formerly a field grade officer billet, McMeen is dual-hatted as the Senior Enlisted Leader on the headquarters’ joint service production floor.

McMeen is a native of Salem, Ilinois and enlisted in September 1992. He made a lateral move into public affairs in 1994 while assigned to the Marine Air staff at Headquarters Marine Corps in Washington. He notched distinguished graduate honors at DINFOS’ Basic Journalism Course and went almost immediately to Recruiting Station Dallas as the Marketing and Public Affairs Representative.

A Meritorious Service Medal recipient, he served two tours in Iraq while assigned to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and was later a lead public affairs planner with Marine Forces Central Command, Marine Forces Europe and Marine Forces Africa, deploying numerous times to countries in those three regions.

Earlier assignments include the Motion Picture Liaison Office in Los Angeles and MCAS Beaufort, South Carolina where McMeen also served as a volunteer crew member on the Station’s C-12 aircraft.
